Two season ending injuries have left the George Jetsons perpetually looking for subs. It’s a good thing the beer listers won’t pass up a night of drinking or there may have been no familiar faces on the field in week three. Our super-subs pulled their weight though and helped lift the Jetsons back in the playoff race after a slow start in Season 16.
Ah, there’s nothing like a nice game against Bohica to bring you out of a slump. Every once in a while they sneak up on us, but this night it was standard fare. They drink many more beers than us, but we score many more runs than them. Holding Bohica to only one run did require some good defensive plays though. There was Lupo deciding that if he made the effort to get to the field he was going to catch a ball... even if it was heading right at Kevin. The infield turned a nice double play capped off by a big stretch by Big Sac. Damon was wondering where that stretch was on the play that gave up Bohica’s only run. Man on second. Two down. Ground ball to third. The runner moves on the throw, which goes wild. By the time Big Sac reaches the ball, the runner has crossed the plate. To prove this did not come from lack of hustle Big Sac continued to run at full speed to bring the ball back to the infield. That was full speed right? In the end it didn’t matter except Pat didn’t get the glory of a shutout for his excellent pitching performance. Ron led the charge on offense in this game going 3 for 3 with a double, triple, 2 runs, and 3 RBI to take the MVJ. I think he leads the team in games one hit away from the cycle, but I didn’t do any database work to verify this.

Another familiar foe proved the perfect remedy for our losing record. And they were also in true form as Yelly Guy pulled the first baseman mid inning after failing to scoop an errant throw and shouted for his ball to burn the outfield as Kevin took a lazy step back and put a squeeze on it.
The GJ defense fall apart giving up 3 times as many runs as the first game, so it must have been our offense that won it for us. Almost everyone contributed with all but your friendly recap writer having multiple hits. The hardest earned run came when Moose broke from second to third on a grounder hit up the middle. As the second baseman fielded it Pat tried a distraction technique yelling “four, four, four!” to get the second baseman to throw home. It worked! The throw did go home. Actually, it didn’t work as Nick thought he was yelling at him and kept chugging towards home. But in the end it did work as Nick made a great hook slide and avoided the tag to score the run. There were a few great personal performances at the plate. Damon hit a no-doubter and dispelled our belief that the low compression balls can’t make it over the fence. Lupo stayed perfect for the night and Ron continued his tear. But the MVJ in this game goes to Big Sac for going 3 for 4 with 2 runs and 3 RBI. Oh, and did I mention that he had the beer on ice at 1:58 pm!

Great work in week 3 boys. We’re back to even putting ourselves in the playoff race. With the two best records on our schedule for next week we can climb right back into the a tie for tops in the league. Let’s get 'er done!
